Budget Blues

I was talking to my mom last night about our wedding budget, and realized that there are still several items that we forgot to include.  Part of this realization comes from an amazing gift from my grandmother.  She wants to take care of a weeks worth of accomodation following the wedding for our Honey Moon.

Back up, a honey moon?  That's not on the budget.

So, on top of a honeymoon, we're also missing:
  • Wedding Bands
  • Stamps
  • Hair/Makeup
  • Favours
whoops.

ahh well, it's a learning experience that's for sure!  We'll get it organised before too long.

  1. You have lots of time to plan. But I think when you haven't been to a lot of weddings its hard to decide which traditions to keep and which don't add to your enjoyment of the day. Just remember to stop when it gets frustrating. Time will gain you perspective.

  2. You mom is right. It's hard when you don't understand the traditions. For my own wedding, I went and researched why some traditions exist. Based on that, I got rid of quite a few because i didn't like the ideas behind it or because I just didn't want to do it. For example, we did not do a receiving line, bouquet or garter belt toss, gift opening. I found that by just understanding the history of weddings it helped me to figure out if I was interested.

Oh, I did the same thing as you when planning. I totally forgot about envelopes and stamps. lol

  3. When is the wedding date?
If I could give you ONE piece of advice, it would be "plan for the marriage, not necessarily for the wedding". The wedding day will come and go, but the marriage is forever.
Good luck and big hugs. You'll get it all organized. I planned our wedding in 8 weeks! And it turned out perfectly.

  5. Hi Jessie,

I'm in the middle of planning my wedding as well, here are a few cost saving tips that we've decided to do.

    - We're giving guests the option of receiving the invitation by email which has been really well-received! We're estimating that less of 1/2 of our guests will prefer a paper invitation.

    - We spent $80 up front on an awesome wedding website that has all of the information with directions, travel info etc etc etc. It means that we're saving on the paper invites that we do create, as they're a simple one-pager with basic info and the website URL

    - RSVPs online (or by phone for the old folks) means no RSVP cards and saving on an entire set of stamps

    - Siblings only for our wedding party

    - No favours, just giving away table centrepieces at the end of the night

Hope that helps, looking forward to reading more about your wedding as plans progress!
