By the end of today I will have 26.75 hours of banked time - that's 35.67% of my goal of 75 hours before January 1, 2009. I actually had another 7.50 hours, but I used that when my family was in town.
So.. what does that mean? Well, to reach my goal - I'll need to bank another 48.25 hours. I have 4 full weeks left prior to the end of the month, and two short week when Christmas falls & January 1st falls. As i will be taking a few days off around Christmas, I think that I should try to get the rest of the hours in during the next four weeks - that way, I don't have to worry about it during Christmas.
48.25/4 weeks = 12 hours/week
Remember though - each week i work overtime, I 'give up' 2.5 hours (because of my 37.50 hour work week). That means, I'll actually have to put in 14.5/week, or an extra 3 hours a day. As of late, I've been working 7:30am - 5:30pm and taking 30 minutes for lunch instead of an hour - which gives me 9.50 hours a day (2 extra hours).
To hit the three hour mark, I'll need to work 7:00am to 6:00pm and continue only taking 30 minutes for lunch.
What do you think, is it do-able? Will I drive myself crazy?

I think you will drive yourself crazy. Continue on the path you are on. You will complete the goal in Jan. instead. Because life happens. Unless J commits to cooking supper every day except Tues. Because you need to eat in a healthy way. Because I love you.
ReplyDeleteDad says what's the big deal. Work whatever it takes to get the job done. That's how guys that work 12-14 hours a day (when they work) think.
ReplyDeleteIt's a laudable goal, but perhaps you didn't start early enough to get the full 75 hours extra in without burning yourself out. If you're asking if you'll drive yourself crazy, I agree with your mom -- continue as is, which is commendable! =)
ReplyDeleteI too think that it's a good goal but...not realistic. Christmas and New Years is a stressful enough without making it nearly impossible to live your life. If you aren't careful you could even end up making yourself sick!
ReplyDeleteIt is doable, but it is up to you to decide whether it is worth it or not. To me, it looks like at this point you are not thinking about the money but rather about hitting a goal, and getting what you set out for. That's great, and all the best, whichever way you decide to go.
ReplyDeleteI think I would definitely go crazy. Even in a job I absolutely loved, 11 hours a day is way too much!
ReplyDeleteIf your boss lets you do it and you want too and there is enough work I say go for it. Milk it for all it's worth. This summer work was crazy for me the overtime doors were opened and most worked 8 am to 12 midnight for a month including weekends.
ReplyDelete7.5 hours a day isn't all that long and if you have work to do working longer should be praised.
regards,
Jason
I think it's do-able, but I also think you'll burn yourself out right in time for the holidays. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteI think it's doable but I wouldn't want to do it, not in December. I would keep on the track you are on, and then extend your goal to accomplish it sometime in January. It's okay to extend it, maybe you can even surpass your 75 hour goal that way.
